VIDEOS AND DVDS Afghanistan, Ringing in the Future (Video) After the war in Afghanistan in 2002, there were only two telephones for every 1,000 Afghans, and communicating between provinces was almost impossible. But in just three years the telecommunications system was transformed. More than a million Afghans had signed up for mobile service, and falling prices were making access increasingly affordable. ONLINE DATABASES Private Participation in Infrastructure Project Database The Private Participation in Infrastructure (PPI) Project Database has data on more than 3,800 projects in 150 low- and middle-income countries. The leading source on PPI trends in the developing world, the database covers projects in transport, energy, telecommunications, and water and sewerage. Data cover the contractual arrangements, the sources and destinations of investment flows, and information on the main investors. The database is a joint product of the World Bank’s Infrastructure Economics and Finance Department and PPIAF. ICT Regulatory Decisions Clearinghouse The ICT Regulatory Decisions Clearinghouse (ICTDec) is an online resource that provides a one-stop access point to decisions originating from ICT decision making bodies such as telecommunications regulators, industry ombudsmen and specialized dispute resolution tribunals. Currently, ICTDec provides unified and simplified access to thousands of decisions available on the Web, as well as to selected decisions unavailable online. |
